I am using an AquaClear 70 on my 20 gallon reef tank. I bought this item because the intake tube did nothing to address the surface scum that always seemed to build up over time. The final straw was waking up to find my horseshoe crap stuck to the intake and struggling. Fish should be strong enough to avoid the draw of the filter, but horseshoe crabs, with their giant carapace and tiny legs are not strong swimmers. With the surface skimmer, I no longer have to worry about this happening. The magnetic mounting system is also quite awesome. I would highly recommend!

First off, you really need an ATO (auto top off) to run this, or any overflow based filter for that matter. This one in particular because the overflow box is relatively small.

I tried to use this with only the upper section of the intake tube for the AC70 (the u-shaped tube) and it pulled too much air because it wasn't deep enough in the overflow box. I took the extension tube and cut it so it was about 1” above the bottom of the overflow box and now I can run the filter on the highest GPH.

It's a little tricky getting the ATO sensor in the box with the filter tube and at the right height, but once you do it works really well. Once the ATO sensor is adjusted you won't get any more air bubbles or gurgling. It's pretty much silent. Setup was easy thanks to the magnetic mounts, I really like this as a surface skimming solution for my cheapo Aqueon 29g.

Removed the biofilm quickly from my freshwater aquascape. The water looks great. Need to get some stainless steel mesh to keep the shrimp out though.

They're beautiful and so aesthetically pleasing, they are superior quality as far as materials go. I'll definitely be getting more!

Bought two of these for the special frags that I don't want near anything else and want to place on the back wall of my AIO tank. They have held every frag i have tried in them. Now they have me thinking that to place a frag of green star poly in them and attach to the back wall of my tank and space them out to get the back wall covered more quickly. These little racks are quickly becoming my favorite.

Fantastic to hear that! Please be aware that using frag racks on acrylic tank will cause unwanted scratches as you drag the rack/magnet from the outside. However for the MicroTank it is easy to just reach in and take the rack off to move it (instead of dragging the magnet on the outside).
